Thank you for visiting our web-site of the Department of Neurosurgery, Hokkaido University. Our department has one of the longest traditions/histories of Neurosurgery in Japan since 1965. During the past 60 years, our department has been making a continuous effort to provide the best surgical management of central nervous system disorders. We are particularly focusing our interests on the basic/clinical research of cerebrovascular diseases (intracranial aneurysms, vascular malformations, Moyamoya disease etc.), brain tumors (malignant brain tumors, skull base tumors etc.), and spinal cord disorders. We are also promoting translational researches on cerebrovascular diseases, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury using pluripotent stem cell implantation technique. In light of the rapid progress of the technology and basic science, we are always motivated to be the pioneer of Neurosurgery in the present and future. Therefore, it is our distinct pleasure to welcome all the medical students, young medical staffs and investigators, being interested in the field Neurosurgery and Neuroscience. We are looking forward to creating the ‘future of neurosurgery’ with all of you in our department.
